Hi! Although you can read all about my professional qualifications on my Resume page, I thought you might want to know more about me as a person outside of the academic and business world. I currently reside in Lexington, KY, although I love to travel when given the chance. I grew up in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada and consider myself a Canadian at heart, though those days get farther away. My immediate family lives in Lexington as well, and we try to get together as much as we can for good times and good food. I am married and don't have any children of my own, but I have a young nephew, who probably holds the title of Most Spoiled. My husband and I own another small business which we quickly discovered has just become what we refer to as our "very expensive hobby." We publish a small regional magazine catering to a specialty hobby crowd. My hobbies are very eclectic and range from painting and writing to writing/recording/performing original music and bellydancing, with a little NASCAR watching and maybe even camping and fishing thrown in for good measure. I am not afraid to try anything at least once, especially if it is different or eclectic. I love to hang out with my friends and never tire of good conversation and good food....ok ANY food. One of the most important parts of my life is the volunteer community service work that I have been doing for several years. I have worked as a crisis line counselor for the Bluegrass Rape Crisis Center and a case reviewer for the Citizen's Foster Care Review Board. Most recently I joined forces with a group of very talented people to try to get a new non-profit group off the ground. A fun, but informative part of my current life is the time I spent hanging around with members of the Lexington Police Department. I am a proud graduate of the Citizens Police Academy and Masters Citizens Police Academy programs. I also work with the CPA Alumni Association to continue my work with the police department to perform community service and continue both the education of the public and the commendation of the wonderful and tireless (and often thankless) job that the law enforcement agents do for all of us. I have seen the department from the inside out and my new education has been eye-opening. I have also been able to participate in hands-on training with the officers to help them keep their skills at top level to serve and protect all of us. I have always respected law enforcement, but now I truly appreciate the courage and skill it takes for them to put on the uniform and step on the street every day. Remember to Back the Blue! I recently enrolled in the Citizens Fire Academy to learn the inner workings of Lexington's Fire and Emergency Services Department and am looking forward to this education as well. |
